There are many vineyards in the area which makes a planned wine trail a particularly memorable experience, including Melton Estate Vineyard. The town also offers an excellent coffee shop or two and a couple of restaurant/bar facilities worthy of further examination, including the Rolly Inn.
Also home of the Rolleston Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The town was founded because it is the site of the railway junction between the Midland line to Greymouth and the Main South Line.
