Roll Call (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Roll Call" is a song from underground rapper Tommy Wright III on his underground album, Ashes II Ashes, Dust II Dust (on both the 1994 original and the 2006 remake). This track is about all the rappers, producers, and DJs from Memphis, Tennessee that help put the city on the map. Artists like Eightball & MJG (one of the longest running rap groups from the city), Three 6 Mafia (the first rap group from the city to win an Academy Award along with the first to perform there), Gangsta Pat (rapper who made the dance Gangsta Walking famous), DJ Zirk (who's underground song, Lock Em N Da Trunk, was an hit & is still sampled today), Spanish Fly, Mack 10 (one of the first rappers who helped the inventing or crunk rap), Gangsta Blac, Skinny Pimp and even Jazzy Pha are mention in this song, along with various underground Memphis rappers and DJs dating back to the early 80's are among some nambed. This song is significant due mainly Memphis rap's long history of beef and animosity from many of the city native rappers to another (with the exception for Eightball & MJG).
