Rolando Fonseca

Rolando Fonseca Jiménez (born June 6, 1974 in San José) is a Costa Rican football player, who plays as a striker for LD Alajuelense. He is regarded as one of the country's most talented players of all time.

Nicknamed 'el Principito', Fonseca has played for Comunicaciones, Deportivo Saprissa, LD Alajuelense of Costa Rica, Independiente Medellín of Colombia, and Toluca and La Piedad of Mexico.

In Costa Rica, he has played a total of 253 games, scoring 100 goals, between the league's two best teams, Saprissa and Alajuelense. He has won Costa Rican championships in 1993-94, 1994-95, 1996-97 with Saprissa, and 2001-02, and 2002-03 with Alajuelense. Additionally, he has won CONCACAF Champions' Cups in 1993, 1995 with Saprissa, and 2002 with Alajuelense.

Fonseca has also been a fixture on the Costa Rica national team since 1992. As of Febraury 2007, he has played in 100 games for his national football team, and is currently the best all-time scorer for Costa Rica, with 47 goals. His 47th national goal was the number 1000 for Costa Rica in international matches. Fonseca played in two games for the team at the 2002 World Cup.
