From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roger Gracie Gomes is a highly-decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. He is a member of the Gracie family, the son of Reyla Gracie, who is the daughter of Carlos Gracie, and Mauricio Motta Gomes, one of the 6 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts of Rolls Gracie.

Gracie is one of the most successful Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling exponents active today, enjoying an intense rivalry with grapplers such as Xande Ribiero and Ronaldo de Souza. His most notable achievement to date is winning the prestigious ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship in 2005, taking 1st Place in the 88 - 98kg and Open-weight categories by submitting all 8 opponents, a feat that had not previously been achieved.

Gracie is the main instructor at The Roger Gracie Academy located in West London, England. His fellow instructors include Felipe Souza and Jude Samuel.

Gracie defeated Ron Waterman in his mixed martial arts debut by armbar submission in the 1st round at the Bodogfight pay-per-view USA vs Russia.
