Roe River

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Roe River runs between Giant Springs and the Missouri River near Great Falls, Montana. Officially it is only 61 meters (200 feet) long.

A successful campaign to get the Roe River recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the shortest river in the world originated from students at Lincoln Elementary School in Great Falls, Montana. Students Molly A. Petersen and future NFL football player Dallas Neil put in an appearance on the Tonight Show as part of this effort.

However, Oregon's D River which is about 120 feet (36 m) long, depending on the tide, also has a claim as the shortest river in the world. In reality the lengths of both rivers can vary substantially. The 2006 Guinness Book of Records does not recognize any river as being the shortest.
