Rodney was an American television sitcom that began broadcasting on ABC on September 21, 2004. The show's story, loosely based on the life of the titular character's actor, comedian Rodney Carrington, revolves around the character Rodney Hamilton who wishes to leave his horrible job in Tulsa, Oklahoma to become a stand-up comedian. The show also began broadcasting in the UK on ABC1 on May 31, 2005, and in Australia on Seven on August 17, 2006.

Rodney's life revolves around his family - his wife Trina (Jennifer Aspen) and his sons Jack (Oliver Davis) and Bo (Matthew Josten). He also spends a lot of time with his best friend Barry Martin (Nick Searcy) who is constantly trying to escape his wife Genie and with his crazy sister-in-law Charlie (Amy Pietz).

He also spends quite a lot of time with father-in-law Carl (Mac Davis) who have a mutual loathing for each other and in one episode Rodney shoots Carl in the behind. Rodney also has a strained relationship with his mother who he disapproves of and the father who abandons him but does turn up when a prank announces Rodney had died. Rodney's reaction to this news is, "that has to be wrong".

Rodney's main ambition is to become a successful stand up comedian but has to fit this in with various jobs such as a dry waller and a night watchman.

Other recurring characters are Gerald Bob (Jon Reep), who has a sexual relationship with Charlie.

Ric Swartzlander is the creator and executive producer of the comedy series. David Himelfarb is the executive producer.

The show was cancelled on May 13, 2006. The final six episodes were not aired in the United States, however they were shown in Australia on the Seven network in October 2006.
