Rodeo Barrelman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Rodeo Barrelman can also be called a "rodeo clown." Their job is to entertain the audience during any periods of down-time in the sport of bull riding. Most barrelmen wear clown makeup, and unusual clothing, and many use props or animals in their routines. (Rodeo Bullfighters, are by contrast, safety-men and not entertainers.)
The rodeo barrelman does not leave the arena during bull rides, but frequently stays near his ever-present "prop" a large open-ended barrel, placed near the center of the arena. This custom-made "prop" provides him with a safe place to escape a charging bull, and may even be used by a dismounted bullrider in times of emergency.
Famous rodeo clown Flint Rasmussen works with the PBR and has a series of Enterprise rent-a-car commercials which feature a few seconds of his routine.
