[edit] Early life and career
Marquette was born in Fremont, Michigan and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. He decided he wanted to become an actor after seeing Susan Lucci on the soap opera All My Children with his grandmother.[4] In 1987, Marquette gave his first performance with a puppet show that was part of his aunt's college class project.[5] As a child, he made his own horror movie about killer stuffed rabbit that jumped out of a garbage can and killed anyone in sight.[4] He spent a lot of time on the shores of Lake Michigan, but also wrote about moving to California and becoming an actor.[5] In High School, he was a high school drum major in the marching band. At eighteen, he won the Shakespeare Scholarship to Grand Valley State University.[6]
After a few years in college, he moved to Los Angeles to become an actor.[5] (around 2001). Marquette signed with agents Mara Santino and Ryan Daly at the KSA talent agency in 2003. He was the body double for Spider-Man and the Green Goblin in the 2002 film.[2] Marquette had a part in two small independent films during this period, a lead role film A Softer Touch[7] and a supporting one in No Thanks.[7] He had his first speaking role in a widely distributed film as Shawn Jenkins in 2004's Anderson's Cross. He had been introduced to Frederick Levy, in 2001 by his then manager Robert Abrams. Levy helped Marquette to get his breakout role in Shallow Ground.[1]
[edit] Shallow Ground
Frederick Levy introduced Marquette to the part of The Boy in Shallow Ground.[4] At the audition he impressed writer director Sheldon Wilson who thought that Marquette "nailed it [the character"[3] and although many people were auditioned for the part Wilson felt that Marquette "was the only one that kept it small and spoke internally."[3]
The role of The Boy is unique in that the character has nearly no lines and is nude for the duration of the film and is one of a few example of where a lead character is nude for the entirety of a film. For much of the film he is also covered in fake blood, made from dye and syrup, only briefly having it wiped off. Many people have been impressed by the use of emotion in the character's eyes[4] and Marquette has received favorable reviews for the character even by critics who otherwise panned the film.[3]
Since the release of Shallow Ground, traffic at Marquette's personal website has more than doubled.[5]
[edit] After Shallow Ground
After Shallow Ground, Marquette took on supporting roles in the independent films Iowa and Guy In Row Five. He has leading roles in Tobe Hooper's 2006 film Mortuary and Mark Jones's 2007 film Triloquist in what has been described by independent horror films as a "horror trifecta". He also had a role as a troubled teen in Bondage starring Michael Angarano. Marquette is also slated to appear in the film Hotel California in a supporting role.
