Rocky Gap State Park

Located just seven miles east of Cumberland, Maryland, Rocky Gap State Park encompasses over 3,000 acres (12 kmĀ²) of public land. Rugged mountains surround the park which features 243-acre Lake Habeeb on white sandy beaches. The lake is fed by Rocky Gap Run which winds its way through a mile long gorge displaying sheer cliffs, overlooks and a hemlock forest dense with rhododendron. Overlooking the lake is Evitts Mountain, named for an early settler in Allegany County. Rocky Gap offers a range of year round recreation such as, swimming, camping, fishing, boating, and hiking.
Also, on the park's premises is the Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort. The lodge is located on Lake Habeeb and features a 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, and a 220-room lakeside lodge provides conference rooms for meetings and conventions, and a full service restaurant and lounge, private dining room overlooking the lake
Fishing is excellent in Lake Habeeb where one can catch everything from panfish to large trophy trout and bass. Boats are allowed on Lake Habeeb 24 hours a day, seven days a week, However gasoline powered motors are prohibited.
Rocky Gap provides a variety of hiking trails. Lakeside Trail, is a 4.5 mile trail that encircles lake Habeeb, following the shoreline and winding through the woodlands. Evitts Homesite Trail is a challenging 5 mile (8 km) trail through the canyon onto Evitts Mountain surrounded by Hemlock, Laurel and Rhododendron, and streams. The Touch of Nature Trail offers hikers of all ability levels a fully accessible paved trail. Benches line the hemlock-edged path that leads to the accessible fishing dock.

The park provides a concert stage for a modest rent fee. The Stage has a striking view against the back drop of like Habeeb. In the past this stage was used for the Rocky Gap Country Bluegrass Festival (1988-2001). The seating capacity of the Ampitheater is 3,000 and the stage area is 42 feet by 60 feet.[1]
