Rockin' All Over the World (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Rockin' All Over the World" is regarded as one of Status Quo's best known and loved songs. Utilising the classic power chords with added thirds riff of most Quo songs, it is relatively simple to play. The song was written by John Fogerty, formerly of Creedence Clearwater Revival, and made its debut on Fogerty's first solo album in 1975. Status Quo recorded their version for the 1977 album Rockin' All Over the World.
The Status Quo version includes 2 solos, the first is done by Rick Parfitt and the second by Francis Rossi. The Status Quo recording lasts for 3 minutes and 33 seconds but, although fairly short, has a slower tempo than, for example, "Caroline".
At Live Aid, Status Quo was the opening band and began their set with "Rockin' All Over the World". Twenty years later, at the Live 8 concert in London, Coldplay also performed a portion of the song, with lead singer Chris Martin singing the chorus during the song "In My Place."
"Rockin' All Over the World" has been included on every one of Staus Quo's compilation albums, marking its popularity and place among their greatest ever work. Other versions of this song have been recorded for example by the Georgia Satellites and Bon Jovi, but also by regional artistis such as Dutch Bertus Staigerpaip and German Wolfgang Petry. While most cover versions are based on Status Quo's attempt some clearly stick to Fogerty's original.
The song is also commonly played at Leyton Orient after the game when they win their home matches.
