Rockaway Parkway Line

The Rockaway Parkway Line is a public transit line in Brooklyn, New York City, United States, running mostly along Rockaway Parkway between Canarsie Pier and the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway terminal of the BMT Canarsie Line of the New York City Subway. Originally a streetcar line, it is now the B42 bus route, operated by the New York City Transit Authority.

The Wilson Avenue Line (now the B60 bus) continues north on Rockaway Parkway from the end of the B42 to Williamsburg.

The line originated from the Brooklyn and Rockaway Beach Railroad, opened in 1865 to a ferry to The Rockaways at Canarsie Pier. It was reorganized as the Canarsie Railroad in 1906 and integrated into the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company's system of rapid transit. The main service was truncated to Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway in 1917, changing the line beyond to Canarsie Pier into the Canarsie Shuttle, operated by standard elevated rapid transit cars until 1920 and then trolley cars. On November 21, 1942, the private right-of-way was replaced by trackage on the parallel Rockaway Parkway (and St. Jude Place and Canarsie Road near the end). Buses were substituted for streetcars on April 29, 1951.
