Rockaway Beach, Missouri

The historic waterfront town of Rockaway Beach is in Taney County, Missouri, United States. The population was 577 at the 2000 census. This beautiful town is located on the shoreline of Lake Taneycomo, which is world known for Trout. Enjoy the tranquil serenity of the Ozarks after taking the scenic drive into Rockaway Beach. Catch Bass and Rainbow Trout from the town's complimentary Fishing Island. Plenty of marinas and fantastic food can be found in the downtown area.

Rockaway Beach is located at 36°42′3″N, 93°9′40″W (36.700820, -93.161177)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (12.50%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 577 people, 274 households, and 169 families residing in the city. The population density was 397.8/km² (1,037.1/mi²). There were 366 housing units at an average density of 252.3/km² (657.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.36% White, 0.17% African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.52% from other races, and 2.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.56% of the population.

There were 274 households out of which 22.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.0% were non-families. 31.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.11 and the average family size was 2.64.

In the city the population was spread out with 18.0% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 30.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 100.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,359, and the median income for a family was $39,063. Males had a median income of $21,375 versus $20,833 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,589. About 4.8% of families and 8.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.7% of those under age 18 and 9.2% of those age 65 or over.
