[edit] Song Information

Rock and Roll Is Dead is an uptempo rock song. Many consider this song as a remake of Kravitz's song Are You Gonna Go My Way. Kravitz has reported that the lyrical content of the song is based in the superficiality of the given image to the rock and roll genre, misleading the musical content and talent of the ones who belongs to the genre. He also sings about the stereotypical lifestyle of a rock star, the same topic that he would later write about in his 2004 song, Where Are We Runnin'?. However, the song's title made the people believe that he was singing about the rock genre itself. [1]

[edit] Chart Performance

As Circus album did not get much success, the song wouldn't perform well on U.S. Billboard Hot 100, reaching number seventy-five only. Nevertheless, in U.K. the song reached top forty, peaking at number twenty-two.

[edit] Music Video

The music video for Rock and Roll Is Dead was directed by Ruven Afanador. The video shows Kravitz performing the song with his band, as well Kravitz with visual artistic related backgrounds.
