Rocco Laurie Intermediate School

The Rocco Laurie Intermediate School refers to New York City Intermediate School 72 in Staten Island, New York. The school is located on Ferndale Avenue in the Heartland Village neighborhood of Staten Island. The school opened in 1976 and has served approximately 2000 students annually. Stanley Katzman was the school's first principal. The current principal is Peter Macellari. The school has 4 floors. The first floor for Italian, the second floor for Spanish ,the third floor for French and the fourth floor for Spanish. Each floor has its own set of AP's and deans. The school was named after New York City Police Officer Rocco Laurie. In 1972, Officer Laurie and Officer Gregory Foster were assassinated by members of the Black Liberation Army while walking their patrol beat on Avenue B and East 11th Street in the Ninth Precinct.
The school's colors are Orange and Blue. The mascot for the school is the Bulldog.
