[edit] Spamming of MacItBetter
Welcome to Wikipedia. Your only edits to date have been to link to MacItBetter do not seem to meet WP:EL & are WP:SPAM (or complaints that this spam was removed). Please do not readd this link. It is somewhat poor form to add links to any site you maintain--if the community thinks it is relevant, someone else will usually add it. I notice that ALL of your edits have concerned this forum. There are a lot more ways to contribute to WP than through link spamming & I look forward to seeing positive contributions from you! --Karnesky 11:55, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Did you even read the definition of WP:SPAM? I don't know what to say. Go over Wikipedia and remove every link to or mention of commercial stuff. Because users should really not know about it. Sure, it could help them, but no, no, it's commercial, it's evil. I will not again add the link on the 7-zip page, but I invite you to add it again. Because it is information, users will find helpful. 7-zip will just find no users on the Mac, if the only product available (or at least that they know about) is the command line tool. --RobertRezabek 12:29, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Of course I read WP:SPAM. Did you? Particularly "Wikipedia is not a space for personal promotion or the promotion of products." What intentions do you have beyond promotion? 7zX is linked from that page. While I question how valuable that link is, at least that is for a gratis product. If you think others would agree that it is useful, please use the talk page of the article. --Karnesky 13:33, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Karnesky, the link should be removed. Wikipedia is not a marketing platform for people to advertise/promote their products. -- Frap 17:32, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Karnesky: Your citation is a little out of context, no? Because the heading says "Review your intentions" not "Is sg. spam or not". Do I promote a product/idea with this link? Yes. Is this the only intention I have when adding this link? No. So what other intention do I have? Information. That's what Wikipedia is all about. The spam guidelines say, you should not add an article about yourself. I didn't do that, right? The guidlines say no such thing about links. If you look at the text in the link I added, you will find no marketing blablah. I didn't add it at the top of the list. Am I a link bot? Nope. Did I a add a huge number of links. Depends on whether 2 is a huge number. And once again: BetterZip is the only GUI tool to create and extract 7-Zip files on the Mac. Free or not. It's shareware, I am not a huge corporation. Is this an interesting information to be included on the 7-zip page? You answer yourself and re-add the link or not. --RobertRezabek 06:28, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Please move discussion of this to the talk page of 7-zip if you are so passionate (but link to your talk page so that others can see the discussion). You will note that I'm not the only one who finds the link inappropriate. WP:EL notes that links to "a website that you own or maintain, even if the guidelines ... imply that it should be linked to" should be avoided. So, even if it is an appropriate link (which I don't think it is), you shouldn't have been the one to add it. 7zX is able to work with 7-Zip files on the Mac & is gratis. --Karnesky 14:08, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Did you ever create something? Work really hard on something for months? You'd understand my passion. But it's okay, if this link stirs up problems like that, let's just leave it at that. Robert out. --RobertRezabek 15:18, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes I have and I do understand your passion. This is not a reflection of the quality or utility of your program & you should not take it as a slight. --Karnesky 21:12, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
