[edit] About Me

I created this section for the people I don't get a lot of time to talk to. Instead of having to repeat myself again and again, you can come here and read about my life, should you find the interest! I will continue to add more info that I talk about regularly.

[edit] Personality

I am an INTJ. I don't know what that means (lol) but it certainly means I am introverted (generally stays inside a lot of the time). However, I feel that I am very self-confident, assertive (a mix of being aggressive and passive) and strong in my ideas. I am usually very serious and down-to-earth, however, I can be very positive when approaching different subjects. I always try to stop being stubborn!

Keeping in mind that my INTJ nature causes me to be a perfectionist, I also found out that this means I am phlegmatic. Interesting...

I like to be honest with everyone, even when sometimes it may appear rude. This is because I honestly believe that the only way to improve to to first find a fault, bad or wrong. I have recognised that, of course, this kind of behaviour provides a negative view towards the audience, but I always like to preserve the originality of my reasons.

I base absolutely everything on logic and reason. Je suis très sérieux!

If I have been set a task I usually have to ensure that absolutely everything has been thought of and how to do the task in the best way – this can sometimes be a fault, because it could be suggested that everything ‘has to go through me’ before the work can even be done, which slows down the process and makes other people redundant. I can’t be doing this when I’m older, though!

I can be very enthusiastic and ambitious with whatever I am working on. I really dislike hate feeling pathetic, lonely, passive and sad in general. I have an endless supply of enthusiasm for every subject (except maybe sports), but I am not always confident with unfamiliarity (new experiences).

[edit] College

I am studying AS Levels for IT, Geography, English Literature/Language and Biology.

[edit] Books

I recently finished reading The Speed of the Dark by Alex Shearer (and found it interesting), and I am currently reading The Catcher In The Rye by J D Salinger (and finding it to be quite funny). I started reading Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson, The Human Mind by Professor Robert Winston and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by Joanne Rowling, but had other things to do (coursework) so I 'forgot' to read them regularly.

I aim to read, sometime in the distant future, The Sprawl Trilogy by William Gibson, the inventor of cyberpunk. I also want to read His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman because we read a sample in English and it sounded fantastic.

I must honestly say that I have read books 1-4 of Harry Potter and I can now clearly state the differences between the books and the films. I also want to finish reading The Unexplained Series by Terrance Dicks (writer for Doctor Who). I do like mysterious and ancient-legend type books (and films like The Mummy).

I am a very slow reader - I absorb every letter and glyph on the pages so it usually takes me some time to even read one chapter. I do enjoy reading, though.

[edit] Beliefs

I often notice coincidences occurring all the time and I think that some superpower, which is somewhat beyond human understanding, controls and causes these things to happen. I call this being 'god.' I believe that a god exists, however, I don't believe that god has an image, has the ability to think, or can even judge people. I think that the only image god could ever have is a white circle, ring or hoop (to symbolise equality and the union and cycle of life and death) - this bears some similarity to the film Pi, in which the protagonist Max is in pursuit of an ultimate number (Pi, is of course, a key factor to finding measurements of a circle). Therefore the closest thing to a 'real' god is probably just consciousness. However, if god is everywhere and is everything, then it could be suggested that we are god ourselves.

I use my coincidences (which are often twinned with an emotion or two) as inspiration for my creative outlets, including artwork, poetry and short stories. On many occasions I have got into a lot of trouble with my teachers for not handing work in on time! So I often thank 'god' for stopping my teachers from killing me!

[edit] Skills

I am often described as a perfectionist but I prefer to call this collation (making sure all things are accounted for).

[edit] Inspiration

I gain a lot of influence from The Matrix. See all my userboxes on the right for other influences as well. As for inspiration for my story writing, I use a quote from The Matrix - when Morpheus says "like a splinter in your mind." You are aware that there is this 'thing' in your mind - you can't touch it, feel it, interact with it, understand it, you can't do anything with it - all you know is that is that it exists and it's there. I believe that is my 'inspiration point,' my source and flow of ideas. However, I recently found out that a book was published with the same name, and looking at the cover, I feel somewhat ashamed. ;(

I have some difficulties managing my 'flow' of ideas though - sometimes, when I'm really entranced in a brilliant idea, in something deep in philosophy and all the elements are complimentary (i.e. art), my ideas suddenly flow and grow - of course, if I have no paper or phone to hand, I have to 'halt' this flow until I can get it down on paper or on some media.

One thing I must mention is that unfortunately this flow of ideas is not set for an audience, when I record them, they are merely a store house for my collected ideas. Therefore some people think I'm weird, strange, too big for my boots or just out of this world. :)

I love philosophical symbolism. I regularly write down loads of rubbish about ethics, morality, symbolism, representation and logic to progress my understanding of the world.

[edit] Philosophy

I believe that money, survival and moderation are key components to life. I believe that the meaning of life is also [1] [2]...

...to resolve all problems that one faces, or to ignore them and attempt to fully continue life without them, or to detach oneself from all problems faced (see Buddhism).

Whenever I think about my 'Problem Theory' I reach a point where I ultimately comprehend that if all objects can be represented as problems, then all people are problems (i.e. a homeless person). Thus this theory could be used to replace the idea of or support the idea of respect or empathy for others (a vital component to life, of course).

I wrote a poem called The Life Perspective which is a brief cameo on the futility of love and war, looking at life from an existential view. When writing, I, the narrator, assume the position of someone scrutinising and viewing in a critical way: people in general; the futile cycle of life; and systems. My poem was published in the Essex Young Poet of the Year Competition and is available for reading on my website.

[edit] Hobbies

When I was very young I had a great interest in swimming and reading. I attended a swimming club every week at the WASP and got many certificates for my achievements. Oh, those were the days. I have a large collection of Lego on my bedroom shelves, which exponentially collect dust and lose interest in me. I also took part in my local library's summer reading challenge for several years. I drifted away from these hobbies probably when I started secondary school.

I enjoy spending my summer holidays at the coast, especially Walton on the Naze, Norfolk and the Isle of Wight.

Now I often spend time with the 'medias' - drawing art, listening to music, watching films, reading books etc. I am constantly in the fridge or on the computer when at home (yet all that lazing around seems to have no effect on my weight as I am still incredibly thin!).

[edit] Computer History

My first ever experience with a computer was with a Windows 3.1, which was very simple and could only really play Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (a game a friend gave to me)! That was then replaced with a Windows 95 from my uncle in Marlow. After a while there was a major problem with it starting up and one of my intelligent computer techy neighbours eventually upgraded it to Windows 98. I have had this computer all the way up to late October 2004! My dad then bought a nice Dell Dimension which is still surviving. My uncle also gave me an old IBM laptop so that my sister could share the internet seeing that she is surgically attached to MSN! As for the old 98... well, that's just lying around in the loft. I still can't believe how fast it shuts down compared to Windows XP!

I can say that I have only tried out a Mac once - at a school career sampler trip. I only got a look at the graphics editor - but I have managed to get a quick peek at an iMac laptop that one of my friends at college uses. I'm not crazy about Macs, but, they do look very cool!

I have also tried out a Windows Vista machine - and seen Flip 3D in action! And I must say, it is quite impressive in terms of graphics (especially the new games like chess!) but I wouldn't dare upgrade to Vista because it just sucks up processing power. Anyway... I hope to see more of it in the future and see if it really is better than XP.

Some people often see me uniquely as their first resource for solving computer problems, seeing that I bear a great amount of knowledge about them. In this way, you could call me a troubleshooter - like a help and support technician - which doesn't really sound that bad. It just means that if computers get better at sorting themselves out, then there won't be a job for me by the time I (hopefully) reach and finish university! I have also famously received a nice, shiny Jack Petchey award for my help in designing my school's website.

[edit] Geoffrey Dummer

Electronics Author and Consultant

Main article: Geoffrey Dummer

This is my step-granddad on my father's side - Geoffrey Dummer. He was the first pioneer to design the silicon chip, 7 years before the Americans. He used to live in Malvern Wells, Worcester. This is where many of the world's technology has been created, including the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). He travelled to many countries all over the world to receive awards for research in telecommunications. I am afraid to say he passed away in September 2002 at the age of 93 having suffered a stroke two years earlier. Before he had the stroke, a BBC News Report was made to tell his life story. Please read the main article to find out more information.

[edit] Bobby Smith

My step-grandad on my mother's side of the family is a famous footballer for Tottenham Hotspurs. That's about all I know. Sadly I personally don't like football very much so I can't tell you much about his role in the game or what contribution he made to the team. All I know is that he now lives in Palmers Green with his wife Jean, and I go and visit him and my loving nan from time to time.

Even though I don't know much about him, I still feel some pride to be related to a famous celebrity. I have several photos which he has signed in photo albums and in large frames on the walls depicting him and his team mates. If you would like to see them then please get in contact with me and I will be more than happy to help.

Even though I don't like football, if anyone asks, I would have to say that I support Tottenham as dedication to my step-grandad.

Bobby released a book, My Memories of Spurs (Hardcover, 95 pages, first published December 2002) with loads of photos and history of him and the all-important football matches.

[edit] Glyn Davies

This is my uncle on my mother's side of the family. He owns a company called International Presence based in Surrey, where I worked for 2 weeks for my work experience. His company's website is http://www.international-presence.com/

[edit] Robert Davies

One of my cousins is also called Robert, and he's currently at college studying music and media or something of the sort. Anyway, he currently produces music and he made a record deal with support from his family. Here are some links:

[edit] MediEvil

Although the graphics in this game may be a bit old for the advanced graphics we have now, MediEvil's graphics still delight the gaming experience and make it one of the best games to play in its time. I personally love this game and have completed it at least a dozen times. The soundtrack on this game is also brilliant, it is really gothic and just amazing to listen to. My favourite track is the one played on the credits - it reminds me of all the places the Dan visits in Gallowmere. I have also ripped the music from the game using PSound from http://snailrush.online.fr/ (currently broken link). There are also some really funny secrets hidden in some of the levels that just add a little extra spice to the otherwise fantastic locations and gameplays. Overall, a simply brilliant game.
