I am an undergraduate student at the University at Albany intending to major in Anthropology and Classical archaeology. Academically I'm interested in the history, literature, and culture of pretty much all cultures and civilizations, but particularly that of the Ancient, Medieval, and Early Modern periods in Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia. Specific topics I like include biblical archaeology and higher criticism, Mesopotamian history and literature, Egyptology, Eurasian nomads, the history of the Indo-European languages, the so-called Dark Ages and Early Modern warfare. I'm also interested in dinosaurs, primatology, biology and genetics, and the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

I also like sci-fi and fantasy, particularly Battlestar Galactica. I love video games, particularly RPGs. Bowling, jogging, hiking, hockey, and going out with buddies to get drunk and/or act like idiots are favorite pasttimes of mine.

[edit] My Current Pet Peeve: Nationalism

As a history enthusiast, I often like to contribute to the articles on the history of various areas of the world. In areas that have had particularly turbulent histories in recent times, such as the former Soviet-dominated countries, there seems to be an unusually high instance of nationalism. While this is understandable, and while I normally wouldn't care, when it turns into historical revisionism, the line is fucking drawn. So please: if you come across some new information, cite it from mainstream academic sources. And don't start railing against the "academic establishment that wants to suppress the truth," because it doesn't exist.

A list of articles that contain nationalism and/or pseudohistory follows below:
