Is Robert Zemeckis really Greek-American? The surname "Zemeckis" might be Lithuanian - e.g. Romualdas Zemeckis (Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics).

Sorry about not answering before, I didn't notice the "History" page. No - he is not Jewish at all. It's a fact misreported by some usually reliable sources, like NNDB. The IMDB has a quote from him: "I was raised a Catholic on the South Side of Chicago, and I felt I had to undo a lot of serious damage. But as I was getting older, I began coming off my absolutely young, arrogant, agnostic beliefs. I was thinking more about coming to terms with human spirituality"... http://www.us.imdb.com/name/nm0000709/bio

I don't believe he has any Jewish ancestry, either. Sometimes he's listed as being Greek, sometimes as Lithuanian - I'm not sure which.

Thank you for replying - A Greek Wikipedian told me that "the ck gives it away that its almost certainly not greek" though. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Greek_American) Maybe he is of Lithuanian heritage, because most Lithuanians are Catholic.

The IMDB says Lithuanian - I'm guessing they're probably right this time.

Zemeckis is a Lithuanian name, it says on his NNDB Yugoslavian ancestry, I guess his half Lithuanian half Yugoslavian.

here's the link to his NNDB http://www.nndb.com/people/224/000025149/

We need a reliable source. NNDB is an info gathering site with plenty of errors, just like Wikipedia, not a first-hand source. Does anything have anything first hand that he is Lithuanian or Yugoslavian? Mad Jack 05:52, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Removed this bit, again. IMDB is fan-submitted trivia junk, and can't be used as a source for anything. Mad Jack 19:58, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selected filmography

Are Zemeckis' first two student films really notable enough to be included in a selective list of his work? The films don't have Wikipedia entries of their own, and are unremarkable outside of the fact that they were early works of Zemeckis. If The Lift is worth putting up, one might as well include the director's childhood fire-cracker home movies. What do others think? Hobbesy3 00:07, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
