Robopon 2: Ring Version and Cross Version (similar to how Pokemon is broken up into Blue and Red) is a game designed by Atlus in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance. The Robopon series of video games appears to be loosely-based off of Nintendo's Pokémon series and is often considered to be a Pokémon clone, although the game is closer to Enix's lesser known game, Robotrek.

[edit] Story

After the events of the first game, the Legend1 of Porombo Island sets out for new lands and new titles, but forgets his Robopon. Before he can turn back to retrieve them, his boat is wrecked in a storm, and he washes up on the continent of Majiko. He decides to become the Robopon champion of this land; in order to do this, he must obtain the one-of-a-kind XStones and challenge the rank-holders of Majiko. As he collects the XStones, however, he finds the towns of Majiko are troubled by events past and present, and he must travel between the world of 20 years ago and the present to make things right.

[edit] Gameplay

Robopon can be created by finding different types of batteries and combining them ('sparking'). Each different combination makes a different type of Robopon. Another new addition is the 4-on-4 style of battling, allowing the players whole party to participate in one big battle. Thus, targeting certain enemies becomes crucial. Another, less experience changing addition is the ability to change the color of your Robopon.

[edit] Trivia

  • The main character's sprite looks similar to the hero of Soul Blazer.
  • The World Map format looks similar to the Overworld map of Terranigma.
