[edit] Story

While travelling around the Robopon island and collecting his Robopon, Cody also had to contend with the "Legend 7," the top 7 ranked Robopon collectors on the island. Each time Cody beat one of the Legend 7, he would take their place in the ranking.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay mostly revolves around collecting and battling robotic characters in a similar manner to Pokémon. To power up the Robopon, the player could add software and parts to them, differing from traditional Pokémon gameplay. Parts had varying amounts of space to store software and determined what sort of attacks the Robopon knew. For example, a Robopon could have an Armgun or a Punch part. The software added elements to the attacks. By equipping a thunder software to a Punch part, the Robopon would be able to Thunderpunch, and so on. Also, by mixing software together, the player could create special attacks (i.e. a fire and thunder software made the special move Zapp!!).

The game had a unique addition to the cartridge. If you pointed a remote control at it and pressed a button it would do certain things like boost your Robopon's stats. Also certain Robopon could perform certain tasks you needed to use to get farther in the game.

[edit] Availability

Robopon Star was made in Japan but not in the US, thus making it impossible to "catch 'em all," as it is a Pokémon-esque game, without using an import.

Also a N64 Robopon game was made but yet again was only available in Japan.

Two GBA Robopon games were made and were brought to America in 2002. They were called Robopon 2: Cross and Ring versions. They starred Cody as he travelled to a new island but forgot his Robopon and when he reached the new island had to get new ones. In these games you could catch Robopon or make them by finding different types of batteries and 'sparking' them. Also new to the game were 4-on-4 battles, all the Robopon that the player carried with him would fight against all the opponent Robopon.
