Robonaut is a joint DARPANASA project designed to create a humanoid robot equivalent to humans during extra-vehicular activity (space walks). Some versions of the robot use the Segway HT for locomotion[1]. Robonaut uses telepresence and various levels of robotic autonomy. The robot's hand has twelve degrees of freedom and uses touch sensors at the tips of its fingers.

Its likeness to Star Wars bounty hunter Boba Fett has been noted by some. This is due to the fact that both Robonaut's and Boba Fett's designers were inspired by the appearance of the Roman Centurion helmet.

Robonaut was created by the likes of Philip Strawser, Kris Verdeyen, Bill Bluethmann, and Robert O. Ambrose, employees of the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

You can see more about this robot at, http://robonaut.nasa.gov/, the Robonauts website.
