RoboCop is a "run and gun" arcade game released in 1988 by Data East. It was converted for many home computers, game consoles and (more recently) on mobile phones.
The game captures the spirit of the RoboCop film to some degree, as it involves killing generic criminals and enemy bosses, like the dangerous ED-209. Being quite popular, RoboCop was followed by several sequels including RoboCop 2, RoboCop 3, and RoboCop vs. The Terminator which was developed for, but never released in arcades, and was later ported to several other consoles including the Sega Mega Drive, Super NES, Nintendo Game Boy, Sega Game Gear, and even as a final generation title for the Sega Master System in Europe.
There was more recently in 2003 a new version of the RoboCop game released by Titus Software as a first person shooter game. It received very poor reviews and was looked down upon in the fan community.

- The background music which is heard when the game is over and the continue play's countdown starts is taken from the RoboCop movie's credits. It can be heard at the time the movie's full cast of characters is shown.
- One of the biggest selling ZX Spectrum games of all time - it was number one in the chart for more than half a year.
- The sound effect heard when RoboCop draws his weapon and his lines (Drop it!... Thank you for your cooperation!) are also taken from the RoboCop's movie.
- There was a bootleg version of this game, named Automat.
