[edit] Professional Career
Known as "Grandpa", Garcia turned pro in 1992 and began his career on a torrid winning streak and captured the Vacant IBF Super Featherweight Title in 1998 with a decision win over Harold Warren. He defended the twice and quickly became a highly regarded champion, but lost the belt in a upset loss to rising phenom Diego Corrales via a devastating TKO. Garcia never regained his former stature after the loss, and in his next fight was TKO'd by Ben Tackie, a knockout deemed Knockout of the Year by Ring Magazine in 2000.
In 2001 he landed a shot at another title, the WBA Super Featherweight Title, against champion Joel Casamayor. Casamayor won via TKO, and Garcia retired shortly after the loss.
