Robert d'Aguiló

Robert d'Aguilo (born c. 1100 in Normandy - died c. 1154 or 1157) also known as Robert Bordet, Robert d'Aculley, Robert de Culley, was lord of the City and the Land of Tarragona.

[edit] Background

In 1124, d'Aguillo became governor of Tudela, and was in the post for two years. Three years after his term office, he became prince of Tarragona in 1129, a position he held until 1153.

He was married to Agnes Sibil·la (d. 1170), and had four sons: Guillem (d. 1168), Robert, Ricard, and Berenguer (who in conjunction with Guillem, assasinated Bishop Hug de Cervelló in 1171).

In 1149, d'Aguillo granted charter to the city of Tarragona, and appointed Guillem Lord of the city of Tarragona, but was force to resign in 1157. This occured after he attempted to transfer his rights to the city to the Count of Barcelona, but d'Aguiló rejected the agreement. On April 29 1157, the Lordship of Reus was granted to the Church of Tarragona but it was transferred to Bertran de Castellet less than two months later on June 3, 1157.

Two years later, an ephemeral agreement between the Count, the Bishop and d'Aguiló was reached.
