Robert Weale

Robert Weale (Born 3 April 1963) originally from Presteigne and educated at John Beddoes School, is a welsh Bowls player. Weale lives in Clehonger, Herefordshire, where he is a key member of a high-flying (nine-pin) skittles team called the Tattibogoes. Weale is sometimes known as Bobby.

Weale made his international debut in 1982. He was the youngest competitor in the world outdoor championships in Aberdeen in 1984.

[edit] Welsh Titles

Weale won the Welsh indoor singles title in February 2005. By August, he added the Welsh outdoor singles title, created a record by becoming the only man to hold both titles simultaneously. He also skipped the Weale family quartet to the Welsh outdoor fours title, on five occasions.

Weale's career-best performance came in January 2000, when he won the world indoor singles title at Potters. In addition, just a few months later, Weale won the fours world outdoor title, in April 2000. In the opening event of the current WBT season, Robert reached the final of the International Open for the first time.

[edit] Commonwealth Games

Weale boasts an impressive collection of Commonwealth Games medals. He won the men's singles silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. He has also won a bronze medal for the men's singles at the 2002 games. Weale has also won two silver medals in men's pairs; with John Price at the 1994 games and with William Thomas at the 1998 games.

Debut: Rob first played for the Tattibogoes on 30th September 1998, in a Cider Cup round 1 match versus Northend at The Gamecock. He scored 35, & the Tatti's won 6-5 (360-325).

Averages: He ended his debut season with an impressive average of 31.45 which gave him 2nd place in the Tattibogoes end of seasons averages table. The following season he improved further to win their averages with 31.71 and received the prestigious 'Bob McCann Memorial Cup'. To date his skittling skills have enable him to repeat this feat on two further occasions in 2000/01 & 2004/05, and he's never finished outside the top three.

Highest Score: Rob's best performance came on 27th September 2000 when the Tatti's were playing a league division one match at their K's Pool Club home. He scored 49 (8, 11, 13, & 17) which still remains the highest score achieved by any player on K's alley.
