Robert Salazar Jr. (24 October 1978 – 22 March 2006) was executed for the murder of two-year-old Adriana Gomez.
On 23 April 1997 in his home town of Lubbock, Texas, while babysitting the child, 18-year-old Salazar beat her, inflicting multiple injuries including a fractured skull. He then placed the child in his bed and left the premises to drink beer. Adriana Gomez was later found by her mother and was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. Salazar was arrested and subsequently admitted beating the child because she would not stop crying. He was sentenced to death.
Salazar was executed on March 22, 2006, for the murder of Adriana Gomez. Before his execution, he claimed Adriana Gomez's death was an accident, stating she hit her head on the tub while giving the girl a bath. For his final meal he had a dozen tamales, six brownies, refried beans with chorizo, two rollo candies, six hard shell tacos with lettuce, three big red sodas, ketchup, hot sauce, six jalapeño peppers, tomatoes, cheese, and extra ground beef. His final words were, "To everybody on both sides of that wall, I want you to know that I love you both. I am sorry that the child had to lose her life, but I should not have to be here. Tell my family I love them all and I will see them in heaven."
