He made so many good friends during his stay in Canada and has successfully introduced Indonesian culture to the local people. He was invited by the local council and by the Indonesian Consulate due to his talent to perform traditional Javanese dances. Robert had travelled to the United States a few times to visit his close friend the late George Verdak , the Artistic Director, Indianapolis Ballet Theatre. Their friendship was amazing as both of them had same hobbies to collect books.

Robert completed his degree in nursing from the University of Indonesia (Universitas Indonesia) in 1996 and although he was approached by some senior lecturers to work for the university, he decided to return back to Yogyakarta where he continued to work as a lecturer for Academy of Nursing and Gadjah Mada University. His passion in higher education has encouraged him to complete his teaching certificate from Yogyakarta University (Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta). In 1998 Robert moved to Manchester to start his MSc in nursing studies from the University of Manchester.
