Robert P. Watson

Dr. Robert P. Watson is a professor at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Boca Raton, Florida. He is an author and frequent national media commentator, and former candidate for the United States House of Representatives.

Watson received his bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1985. In 1987, he received a master's degree from the University of West Florida in Public Administration and Public Policy. In 1991, he received a doctorate in the same field from FAU.

Watson is a professor at FAU, and the author or editor of 25 books on the presidency and American politics, and has published more than 100 scholarly articles and essays on the presidency. A frequent commentator, he has been interviewed over 500 times by CNN, NBC, MSNBC, FOX, the Boston Globe, USA Today and other national and local media outlets.[1] Watson sits on the boards of many academic journals and presidential foundations, and is the founder and editor of the journal, White House Studies.

A member of the Democratic Party, Watson announced in May 2005, that he would run for the United States House of Representatives in Florida's 22nd District, which pitted him against Republican incumbent Rep. Clay Shaw. Watson later withdrew from the race. Shaw was defeated by the eventual Democratic candidate, Ron Klein.
