Robert Ludwell Yates Peyton (1822-1863) served as a senator in the Confederate Congress during the American Civil War, representing pro-Confederacy forces in the state of Missouri. He served as a delegate to the Provisional Confederate Congress in 1861 and was then elected to serve in the Senate for the First Confederate Congress. Peyton died while still in office, apparently of malaria contracted while defending Vicksburg as a colonel in the Confederate Army, on September 3, 1863.
