Robert Gilbert (musician)

Robert Gilbert (September 29, 1899 — March 20, 1978) was a German composer of light music, lyricist, singer, and actor.
Born Robert David Winterfeld in Berlin, he was the son of composer and conductor Jean Gilbert. At first collaborating with his father, he left Germany in 1933 due to his Jewish ancestry and finally arrived in New York City, where he became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1944.
After the war, Gilbert returned to Germany but emigrated to Switzerland in 1954, where he died, aged 78.
