Robert Gerard

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Gerard is a businessman, a former member of the Reserve Bank of Australia, and ran for the South Australian Liberal leadership in 1987.[1].

Gerard resigned on 2 December, 2005 which came amidst questions about a 14-year dispute between his business Gerard Industries and the Australian Taxation Office. Liberal treasurer, Peter Costello, required Gerard to produce evidence that he had no outstanding taxation issues. The letter produced stated that he had no outstanding personal taxation issues, however it did not mention outstanding business taxation issues, but was accepted regardless.[2] Some, including Labor's Treasury Spokesman, Wayne Swan have charged that his original appointment to the board was politically motivated, citing Mr. Gerard's donations to the Liberal Party, in particular his bankrolling of the state Liberal party in South Australia. Since his resignation, his bankrolling of the party has ceased, allowing for only the most basic of election campaigns at the 2006 South Australian election.

Robert attended the prestigious South Australian Private School, Prince Alfred College.
