Robert Fitzgerald (b. 1976 in Fargo, North Dakota) is an American politician. In 2006, he unsuccessfully ran as the Independence Party nominee for the U.S. Senate from Minnesota against Republican Mark Kennedy and the winner of the election, DFL nominee Amy Klobuchar, who filled the seat vacated by retiring Mark Dayton.

Robert began his run for Senate as an independent and later sought and won the endorsement of the Independence Party.

Robert is a graduate of Fergus Falls Senior High School, University of Minnesota, Morris and the University of Mary.

During the election, he was only 30 years old. Fitzgerald took proud of his young age and pointed out that the average age of US senators was 60, and these old individuals were unable to legislate for young families [1].
