Robert E. Wood (painter)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert E. Wood (born 1971, North Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian painter and writer. He has been painting full time since 1989, and his career follows over 70 years of professional art in his family.
His grandfather was also named Robert E. Wood and his father was Karl E. Wood – with whom he spent eight months training. This was followed by study with several other top artists, including Harold L. Lyon, and years of personal artistic exploration and development.
Robert has been surrounded by art his entire life and took to it from his earliest years, when his grandfather called him "the little painter". He enjoys working on location, plein air painting, which helps his images achieve a sense of true light and life.
Plein air painting is an exciting and challenging experience and Robert is always looking forward to the next opportunity to work outside. His love of the Western Canadian landscape is a never-ending source of inspiration.
In addition to painting, Robert is also a writer. He is co-author (with Barry Morse and Anthony Wynn) of the books Pulling Faces, Making Noises: A Life on Stage, Screen and Radio and Merely Players - The Scripts.
Wood wrote the comprehensive Space: 1999 compendium The Future is Fantastic!, published in 2001, the definitive armchair guide to the series. He also edited the memoir of British actress Zienia Merton, entitled Anecdotes & Armadillos, which was published in 2005 by Lulu Press. Wood's next book, Stories of the Theatre, followed in 2006.
He is co-author of Remember With Advantages: Chasing 'The Fugitive' and Other Stories from an Actor's Life (the theatrical memoir of Barry Morse), to be released by McFarland and Company publishers in Spring 2007 and co-written with Barry Morse and Anthony Wynn.
His comprehensive omnibus Presenting Barry Morse & Merely Players (also co-written with Anthony Wynn) is scheduled to be published in late 2007. The volume is to contain the complete scripts of the Barry Morse television series and one man stage show. The book will be released in conjunction with the DVD premiere of Merely Players, of which he is co-producer.
Robert currently resides in Calgary, Alberta and is working with Sandra Sprecker on a new book.
