Robert Andrews (politician)

Robert Andrews (born 1957) is an American politician, currently (as of 2006) serving as a Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey's 1st congressional district. He has been a Congressman since 1991.

Andrews is the son and grandson of shipyard workers and was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated summa cum laude from Bucknell University, where he also was Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from Cornell University, where he was on the Board of Editors of the Cornell Law Review. Before coming to Congress, he was an attorney and an adjunct professor at the Rutgers University School of Law. He also served as freeholder director of Camden County, the highest elected office in county government.

He has served on the Education and the Workforce Committee since entering Congress, and is the Democratic leader and Ranking Member on the subcommittee on Employer-Employee relations. He also serves on the House Armed Services Committee.

Andrews is married to Camille Spinello Andrews, who is Associate Dean of Enrollment at the Rutgers University School of Law. The couple have two daughters, Jackie, 12, and Josie, 10. They live in Haddon Heights, from which Andrews commutes daily by train to Washington, D.C..
