Back Cover Text for GNA: Initiate:
Imagine finding some old high school classmates. Now imagine discovering that you weren’t really students but part of a large experiment in genetic advancement.
Stanley Robinson doesn’t have to imagine; he’s living it.
Recruited into a secret government organization, Stan discovers that he was infused with a Genetic Nanotechnological Advancement that has given him some super-human abilities. And not just him— many of his classmates have been infused as well.
This is a story of what happens when super heroes become real.
From an interview with the author on May 12, 2006:
What I wanted to do with this story is create a comic book in a novel form. I'd love to do it as an adult comic book, but I can't draw that well.
I've taken some interesting characters, added some super powers, hopefully some you've never heard of before, and put them into our reality.
How would people react to knowing that there really are superheroes? How would people react to finding out they are the superheroes? Who pays for all the dammage they cause when they fight bad guys? Would a comic book company sue because they took a name that was already used in the comics?
I try to go into, well, most of that. What I didn't entirely get to I will get to in the follow up. I have every intention of making this a series. I've already started on the next in the GNA series.
I just hope people like this one enough to actually be interested in a continuation of the story. I think they will. This is a story I am really proud of and I think you'll will enjoy it.
