Roane State Community College
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roane State Community College is a two-year college located in eastern Tennessee, authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1969 along with two other community colleges. The first classes were offered in the fall of 1971 at a temporary location, and in August 1973 the college moved to the current location of its main campus on Patton Lane in Harriman, Tennessee. The school is primarily designed for students who intend to transfer to four-year colleges.
Additional campuses of Roane State are located in Oak Ridge, La Follette, Crossville, Jamestown, Knoxville, Lenoir City, Huntsville and a new campus is being constructed in Wartburg.
Its mascot is the Raider. For reasons known only to the trustees of the college, the mascot bears a striking resemblance to Nathan Bedford Forrest.
Andy Landers, coach of the University of Georgia's women's basketball team and a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, got his start coaching at Roane State.
