Tour by The New Cars and Blondie (summer only)
Legs 2

The New Cars first tour, the first time an incarnation of The Cars has toured in seventeen years. The summer leg was of large-scale arenas, whereas the winter dates are scheduled to be of much smaller, theatre, venues. The tour was arranged in hopes of rekindling interest in the band, in the wake of popular new wave bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Killers. VH-1 Classic sponsored the tour, and commercials were aired frequently on VH-1 and its sister channels to draw attention to the tour.

[edit] Winter Leg

The most notably difference between the summer and winter legs of the tour, is the apparent lack of Blondie. It is likely that the band will not be touring with The New Cars again. VIP Tickets, a popular feature during the summer tour, will also be available for most venues of the winter leg, with the exclusion of the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank. Reserved fan-club seating will also be available at most venues, except the Count Basie. Kasim Sulton will be on bass at several shows, but Atom Ellis will be filling in on many others. A ticket pre-sale is set to begin on September 18, 2006. Ticketmaster supplies the tickets for most of the venues, although Seatadvisor and various box offices do carry tickets for others.

[edit] Support Acts

The summer leg featured Blondie and the winter leg Persephone's Bees.

[edit] Set

The set was reportedly designed by drummer Prarie Prince. It featured large, circular, metalic rings with screens in them suspended above the stage. The rings were meant to resemble a stop light. The srummer sat in a large glowing ring, and the keyboards were elevated behind the center of the stage. The set was concealed when Blondie performed by a large black tarp, meant to resemble the New York City skyline.

[edit] Tour cancellation

Several dates for the summer leg of the tour had to be cancelled. Guitarist Elliot Easton was on the band's tour bus when there was a traffic accident, and Easton broke his arm. He did play several shows with the broken arm, but eventually, it became evident that he would need surgery and the dates were either canceled or postponed. Many dates towards the beginning of the winter tour was canceled as well.
