RM 380Z

Research Machines Limited produced the 380Z computer from 1978 to 1985. The main unit was a black 4U high 19" rack containing a power supply and passive bus, into which were plugged a series of cards. The keyboard was separate but also came in a tough metal case. Outputs to an external video monitor and / or TV set were provided for the display. The only processor offered was a Z80 (hence the name), with up to 256K of RAM. Mass storage was either via cassette tape, or floppy disk (which required a disk controller card). The basic system came with a basic monochrome graphics card, which could be enhanced with a hi-res board. There was room in the case for two 5.25" floppy drives, an external case could be used for more drives or for 8" drives.
The machine came with a monitor program in ROM, so BASIC or other languages had to be loaded from tape or disk. CP/M was available on disk.
The 380Z was sold mainly to schools in the UK, and some were also sold to industry.
