[edit] Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Halibutt
Since you have supported me during my RfA, I wonder if you could review and comment on the RfA for Halibutt, the first person I have nominated myself. There seem to be a heated debate and votes of experienced, unbiased editors would be appreciated. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 16:57, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
I would like to express my thanks to all the people who took part in my (failed) RfA voting. I was both surprised and delighted about the amount of support votes and all the kind words! I was also surprised by t
he amount of people who stated clearly that they do care, be it by voting in for or against my candidacy. That's what Wiki community is about and I'm really pleased to see that it works. As my RfA voting failed with 71% support, I don't plan to reapply for adminship any more. However, I hope I might still be of some help to the community. Cheers! Halibutt 05:10, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Help with Translation!?
Can you help translate this for me to swedish? Many thanks in advance!
Albania built its first railroad in 1947, and 40 years later Tiranë was linked to all other major industrial centres in the country. The highway network has been extended even to remote mountain villages. Air transport, however, remains largely underdeveloped. There is no scheduled domestic air service.

[edit] Mark's RfA
G'day Rje,
thank you very much for your support of my RfA. I was utterly amazed — one might even go so far as to say "fuddled", or even "terrified" — by the turnout. I'd like to pledge, here and now, to mostly use the new buttons for good and only occasionally for evil. If you've any comments, questions, criticisms, or (especially) advice, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks again, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 14:51, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Rje,
Thanks so very much for supporting my Request for Admin. The final result was 38/0/0. I'm looking forward to spending my summer holidays shut away in a darkened room, drinking G&Ts and playing with my new tools ;-) Please accept this Tim Tam as a token of my gratitude. [edit] BD2412's RFA
Although my RfA is not over yet, I figured that since so many people voted before it had been posted, I may as well start thanking people before it wraps up. It'll take me that long to thank everyone who voted anyway! Thank you, Rje, for your support - I'll do my best as an admin to make the reality of Wikipedia rise to the level of the dream. [edit] Translation request
Rje, I don't think we've spoken before but I've seen you around Wikipedia. I know you must be busy with many things, but I thought I'd ask you a favor and see if you were willing to help out. I've discovered that one of my ancestors is profiled in a lengthy article on the Swedish Wikipedia, but I can't read three words of Swedish. It can be found at http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%B6ran_Persson -- you're listed as a translator willing to work in Swedish on the Wikipedia:Translators available page, and when I recognized your name I thought I'd ask if you were interested. I think he's probably worth adding to the English Wikipedia as an article, but if you doubt it, I'd love it if you could even give his article a glance and drop a couple highlights on my talk page. I'm researching family history and I know this guy was important but haven't found much about him in English. Thanks for your help if you're willing, and please don't feel pressured if you can't get around to it. Best wishes, Jwrosenzweig 20:09, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for being willing to work on it, especially given the busy time of year! I'd sat down with a Swedish-English dictionary and was finding it near impossible after the first 2-3 sentenced. Whenever you complete the work will be wonderful--let me know anytime I can be of service to you, in return! And yes, we knew from family stories that he'd been involved in bad business (though the family had always seen him as an innocent bystander, what I've been finding recently here and there makes me suspect he led a darker life than we'd known). Thanks for the warning, though: I very much look forward to the finished product whenever it's convenient for you to post it. Best regards and happy holidays, Jwrosenzweig 08:09, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you so much--the finished article is far more than we've ever known, and corrects a few pieces of misinformation we've acquired along the way. I have made a tiny edit--while Erik was Jöran's only historically notable child, at least one more child was born, as I'm descended from "Anders Jöransson Tegel"--which I hope isn't improper given my very distant relationship to the unfortunate man. Your translation is very nicely written, and very smoothly rendered--I'm very impressed. Thank you again for taking the time to do this in a busy season of the year, Jwrosenzweig 02:46, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks
Thanks for your support on my request for adminship.
The final outcome was (80/3/0), so I am now an administrator. I was flattered by the level of support and the comments, so I'm under real pressure not to disappoint, thus if you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as an admin then please leave me a note --pgk(talk) 10:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[edit] Burn out
Ah, there's more on that:
When you take action, typically it takes a while before the effects begin to be felt.
So while the mediation cabal came up, the arbitration committee was still on the downswing. At the low point, something like a day up to a week (depending on how you view it) the entire dispute resolution system on wikipedia was basically ... me. :-/ I pulled 24 hour days and managed to keep things afloat. Past that low point, things quickly improved, but the mediation cabal still ended up holding the line for the absent mediation committee for most of last year.
So, I'd say that I very much have a proven track record on commitment and on dealing with burnout. Moreover, by using a simple, straightforward and whimsical approach to process, I've also helped other people cope with wikistress and get on with writing an encyclopedia.
I hope this clarifies my statement. -- Kim Bruning 17:34, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:LocationAsia.png
|
Thanks for uploading Image:LocationAsia.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. cohesion★talk 19:35, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikiproject on non-league football
I've been thinking about creating a WikiProject for English non-league football, and am trying to find out if there's enough interest to make it worth doing. It would be useful to have somewhere for people who are interested in non-league football to have a place to discuss articles, and if there's enough interest we could get a monthly collaboration going with a view to getting non-league articles on the front page. It would be listed as a sub-project of WikiProject Football unless the members of that project objected strongly to it, and people would be able to join either or both (or neither) depending on what they were interested in. I thought you might be interested so I'd like to know if you are - if I get more than 3 or 4 positive replies I'll set it up. Image:Yemen flag large.png CTOAGN (talk) 12:46, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RFA
Hi, this is Matt Yeager. I wanted to thank you for your vote on my request for adminship. The count was something like was 14/20/5 when I decided to withdraw the request. My decision was based on the fact that there are enough things wasting people's time on the Internet that doomed RFA's shouldn't be kept up for voters to have to think about. Regardless of the rationale behind your vote, I hope you will read this note for an extended note and discussion on what will happen before I make another try at adminship (I didn't want to clog up your userpage with drivel that you might not be interested in reading). Thank you very, very much for your vote and your time and consideration of my credentials--regardless of whether you voted support, nuetral, or oppose. Happy editing! Thanks for letting me know. I've done some copy editing, and it's fine by me now. Soo... about going through that article and copy-editing. Seriously, though, I don't see any major problems, so it would actually be helpful if you copy-edited it, if you think the punctuation is problematic. [edit] Date links
This is regarding your copyedit of Emma Roberts. Please note that according to Wikipedia's guidelinies regarding date formatting, "simple months, years, decades and centuries should only be linked if there is a strong reason for doing so." These should only be linked if they're part of a full date with day & month, as in December 28, 2005. If they occure alone, just December or just 2005 or just December 2005, they shouldn't be linked. --Fritz Saalfeld (Talk) 09:41, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

I wanted to drop a brief note on your talk page (one admittedly not written to you only, but nevertheless truly meant) to thank you for your vote in my Request for Adminship, which concluded this evening. Even though it was unsuccessful, it did make clear to me some areas in which I can improve my contributions to Wikipedia, both in terms of the areas in which I can participate and the manner in which I can participate. I do plan on, at some point in the future (although, I think, not the near future), attempting the process again, and I hope you will consider participating in that voting process as well. [edit] Thanks
Thanks for closing it... but, on another topic, assuming you are an admin, what are the exact guidelines for blocking someone? I know what it says on the WP page about it, but they are pretty unclear. For example, what qualifies as a user name that will be blocked? Because thae user pgk has blocked people in the past for reasons that don't seem appropriate. If you use Google to search on WP for his user name, you'll probably find a user page where someone talks about what I mean. Additionslly, when I threatened to have an admin look into his blocks, another admin, freakofnurture (who has a user page that may be against rules, not sure; and I think freakofnurture may be a sockpuppet or someone who does what pgk wants) blocked me. He claimed it was for something I did, which was removing a vote against my RfA from pgk (because I think the reason given was not appropriate, but that is irrelivant now) but pgk did say if I did it once more he would block me, I did not do it again, but was blocked after telling pgk I would have an admin look into his blocks.
I know there is a lot there, leave any questions you may have for me on my talk page. Thanks, aido2002 21:07, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
