Riverdale Collegiate Institute is a high school located at 1094 Gerrard Street East Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1907 and was at that time on the outskirts of the city. It was extensively renovated in the 1990s but the original facade was maintained. It is the academic school for lower east end Toronto and has a tradition of high academic achievement.

On May 17, 2006 the first annual United Games were hosted at Riverdale. This was a day-long event also including students from Eastern Commerce Secondary School, Monarch Park Collegiate and Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute. Former NBA star Jerome Williams acted as principal for the day[1]. His activities included a presentation speaking out against violence[2], barbecuing lunch with students, and overseeing games designed to build relationships between the schools by forming teams with students from all four schools, rather than having a team for each school.[3]

Riverdale Collegiate will be celebrating its centennial in 2007.

[edit] Notable alumni

In addition, Jane Creba was a former student of the school.

[edit] School song

The school song/cheer is often sung at assemblies and is taught to all new students. The song part follows the tune of the song Anchors Aweigh.[4]

There is no better school than Riverdale.

We always will be true to Riverdale
So yell, yell, yell, yell.
As we go down the field our foes will flee;
For Riverdale is ever going onward to a victory.

River, river, river, Dale, dale, dale,
Live for River, Live for River,
Live for Riverdale.
Unum e pluribus, Erin go bragh
Riverdale, Riverdale
Rah, rah, rah.
Yeah, Riverdale
Fight, fight, fight!
