Riverdale, Iowa

Riverdale is a city in Scott County, Iowa, United States. The population was 656 at the 2000 census.
Alcoa has a giant aluminum rolling mill here employing about 2,000 people. The town site is surrounded on three sides by the far larger town of Bettendorf, and on the fourth by the Mississippi River. Bettendorf, in turn, is one of the Quad Cities.

(41.535466, -90.467216)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²). 4.6 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it (17.89%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 656 people, 270 households, and 193 families residing in the city. The population density was 141.5/km² (366.8/mi²). There were 285 housing units at an average density of 61.5/km² (159.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.87% White, 0.61% African American, 0.15% Asian, 0.46% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.29% of the population.
There were 270 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 13.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% were non-families. 24.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.88.
Population spread: 26.1% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,656, and the median income for a family was $41,875. Males had a median income of $37,500 versus $28,194 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,074. About 13.9% of families and 16.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.5% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.
