River of Dreams is the twelfth studio album by Billy Joel, released in 1993. (see 1993 in music). This is the last pop album made by Joel (making the album's last track, "Famous Last Words", oddly prophetic), and presented a much more serious tone as a whole, dealing with issues such as trust and long-lasting love; it was rumored that the themes of trust and betrayal, particularly certain lyrics from the songs "All About Soul" and "The Great Wall Of China", stem from Joel's legal disputes with his former manager and ex-brother-in-law, Frank Weber, who reportedly embezzled from Joel and used dubious accounting practices to cover it up. The title track reached #3 on the U.S. charts, while "All About Soul" and "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)" reached #29 and #77, respectively. This is probably his album with the least 'lead piano' in its songs. It has quite a bit of guitar.
The album itself peaked at #1 on the charts.
The album cover was a painting by Joel's wife at the time, Christie Brinkley.
