River Wallington

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The River Wallington is a small river in south Hampshire. Rising close to Waterlooville the river flows westerly around Portsdown Hill through the village of Southwick (where the river has been dammed to form the ornamental lake in the grounds of Southwick House), past Fareham, before entering Portsmouth Harbour at Wallington.

It has a reputation locally as a river prone to flooding. When the river broke its banks in 2001 there was significant damage to many houses in North Wallington and Wallington Shore Road. Since then Fareham Borough Council has introduced a number of measures to minimise the effects of flooding, including bulldozing the river bed adjacent to Broadcut.
