River Mole, Surrey

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The River Mole is a river in southern England, rising in West Sussex near Gatwick Airport and flowing north. At Molesey, it merges with the River Ember and jointly flows into the River Thames. It is so named because in several places between Dorking and Leatherhead it flows underground. In dry summers, sections of the river bed dry up completely, but the river continues to flow in the rock beneath.
