River Churnet

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The River Churnet rises in the Staffordshire moorlands near the Roaches. It flows through Tittesworth reservoir, and down through Leek. South of Cheddleton, the Caldon Canal locks into it at Oak Meadow Ford Lock, and river and canal are one for about a mile, as far as Consall Forge. A this point the canal goes its own way again. The Churnet joins the River Dove to the south of Rocester.

A locomotive on the Rudyard Lake Steam Railway was so named because of its local importance. It ran in this form from 1993 to 2003 and is now called Excalibur.
