River Bourne, Dorset

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The River Bourne is a river in Dorset. It flows into the English Channel at Bournemouth, giving its name to the town.

It rises in Poole at the Coy Ponds but for most of its length is in Bournemouth. Along its entire course above ground, it flows through public gardens, known as the Upper Gardens, the Middle Gardens and the Lower Gardens. It goes underground at The Square (which divides the Middle Gardens from the Lower Gardens) and again just before it reaches the beach by Bournemouth Pier (so that its mouth is no longer visible).
