Ritual (Artemis Fowl)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ritual is a magic-restoring ritual in Artemis Fowl that faries have to do to regain their power after it is used up. The Ritual requires (from The Book of the People) that a fairy (except trolls, demons and warlocks) pick up an acorn from an ancient (100 years+ old) oak tree near a river bend during a night of the full moon, and then replant it in soil (even a little sliver) "far" away from the place where they picked it. Then, they will feel magic coming up through their arm from the acorn in the ground.

Tara is one of the magic-restoring Ritual sites. It is well known to be filled with 'hippie' fairies during full moons, and according to Foaly, 'there'd be so many shields on, it'll look like the whole place is under water'.

In Artemis Fowl, Artemis caught Holly while doing the Ritual, sp. picking up an acorn. She later replants the acorn in Fowl Manor, regenerating her magic and using it to cause havoc and later to heal Butler after he was mauled during a fight with a troll.

It was discovereed in Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident that an acorn which has been sealed in a small acrylic glass sphere with some earth, an invention of Foaly's, works as well. It was used in Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident to heal Holly Short when her magic was reduced by deadly radiation.
