Ritmiquaa Percussion was formed in September 2003 in Istanbul by twelve students of the 2008 graduates of Uskudar American Academy. An amateur project, started by the Chorus teacher of Istanbul University Conservatoire, Keysudar Sever, became an ambitious group under the teachery of the Istanbul University Conservatoire Percussion Teacher, also a well-known percussionist in Turkey, Engin Gürkey. The group has performed many concerts in schools, shows, exhibitions and ceremonies under the name “Uskudar American Academy: Percussion Group” until 2006 when they named the group as “Ritmiquaa Percussion”, which is a combination of the word rhythm and the school’s name UAA. After performing Latin, Cuban and African rhythms for 4 years, in 2006 they combined those rhythms with traditional Turkish rhythms and extended their repertoire.
