Rita McKeough

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rita McKeough (Born in Nova Scotia) is a Canadian artist living in Calgary, Alberta.

Rita McKeough attended the University of Calgary and received an MFA at Nove Scotia College of Art & Design in 1979. Through experiences working at a radio station and as a drummer in a band, she began fusing elements of sound into her sculptures. The two oversized plush dogs with skyscraper bodies in the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery’s holdings are the vestiges of a 1984 installation for the Banff Centre for the Arts called “Urban Scroungers.” McKeough is one of the featured artists in Caught in the Act: Canadian Women in Performance, edited by Tanya Mars and Johanna Householder (YYZ Books, Toronto, 2004).

McKeough teaches at the Alberta College of Art and Design in the Media Arts and Digital Technologies Department.
