[edit] Biography
The daughter of a Danish mother and a Polish father who came to the U.S. after World War II, Cosby grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut, where she attended Greenwich High School and freelanced for the local paper, she earned her bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina in 1989. Cosby balanced college with a sound engineer job at WACH-TV, the local FOX affiliate, and while working sound for a theater, actor Patrick O'Neal recommended her to Diane Sawyer, who helped her land an internship on the CBS Evening News.[1] Jobs as a local reporter in Bakersfield, California (where she won a local Emmy) and Charlotte, North Carolina followed.
[edit] FOX News
From 1995 to 2005, Cosby worked at Fox News. At Fox, she hosted The Big Story Weekend Edition and Fox News Live with Rita Cosby. At the time of the disappearance of Chandra Levy, Cosby broke the story about Gary Condit's stewardess lover, Anne Marie Smith, and interviewed her for Fox. Condit's political career ended soon after this media attention. Cosby rose to weekend anchor and senior correspondent.[1]
[edit] MSNBC
Throughout her career, Cosby has gained recognition for her exclusive interviews.[1] On her first day of work at MSNBC, Cosby landed the first interview with members of the Jackson family after the verdict in Michael Jackson's criminal harassment trial.[2] She was the first reporter to see prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay and has interviewed the late Serbian president Slobodan Milošević.
She had a primetime show on MSNBC, Rita Cosby: Live & Direct, but it was eventually removed because of its low ratings. Currently, Rita Cosby serves as a host and special correspondent for MSNBC. Occasionally she anchors a live one-hour show, in addition to being the primary anchor of top-rated MSNBC Investigates and heads up the Rita Cosby Specials Unit, which secures the most sought-after interviews and exclusive reports that aired on both MSNBC and NBC network news programs.
